Super 8 Shots - Galway, Ireland, Entertenment ,

Some welcome news from Ireland - a great new Super 8 festival... read on...
Super 8 Shots is the first festival of its kind in the West of Ireland to draw together film, art, comedy and music in such an intimate manner. We are resolutely small and independent. Our own particular idiosyncrasy is a celebration of the Super8 film format, its present, its history and its potential. Super 8 film was invented by Kodak in the 1960s and gave birth to millions of film makers. There has been a huge resurgence of Super-8 film in recent years and Super 8 still has many wonder years to come, with its unperishable cinematic look and its vivid colours.

Over the course of five days at the end of June, we will present, through the medium of Super8, screenings of a significant international selection of original 8mm works (Vivienne Dick, Moira Tierney and more), film masterclasses, exhibition, live 8mm film installations, comedy events and some phenomenal gigs involving Donal Dineen (Small Hours on 2Day FM) and others. Last but not least, we will host an international 8mm Film Competition with prizes worth over 1000 euros offered by Super8Ireland.com, the Galway based super8 film specialists who also are one of the main sponsors for the festival and by our other sponsors.

Embracing and drawing from the well of Galway’s unique spirit, energy and sense of community, we see this festival as an opportunity to add to another string to the bow of a great Western summer. The festival 's programme launch will be in Kelly's on 11th June, where Donal Dineen will be playing with Niwel Tsumbu and Mr Weasel.

Entries by 1st June (under 5 mins, free entry), festival 23rd to 27th June - more at;
